25 REASONS I’m Happy to be 25…

So I had pre-birthday jitters, I’m like 25, tomorrow. Dam I’m getting older, but “Up It”, you’re as old as you feel. And I feel a day older than 19 (this quarter of a century thing is gonna be a big piece of the CAKE lol)

25 Reasons I’m happy to be 25

1. Im celebrating at home in London my home town “Theres no place like home”

2. I have a beautiful family, and a small genuine small group of friends.

3. Early on this year, I achieved what I call a dream, having been focused on it since I was a child, I made it to Hollywood, as a working actor. Who knows where the journey will go, but I always have that moment to look back on.

4. Great Career and supporters of my work over the years.

5. I Can now say “back when i was a youth” lol

6. Start playing more vaired roles.

7. Cheaper Car Rental and Insurance in Los Angeles (Thank the Big guy)

8. A lot calmer than I used to be.

9. Can say wise comments and quotes and them be taken half seriously, no longer coming from the mouth of a 17year old ;  )

10. Say what I mean, mean what I say.

11. Look back on past advetures and smile.

12. Realise i’ve got 5 more years to go wild before I start looking like an old mug.

13. Be happy when people say OMG you look so young ;  )

14. Take the gym seriously, as its all down hill from here hahahahahahahahahahaha

15. Look at the other 25year old around me, and that have gone past me, and compare notes.

16. When talking about getting married and having kids, not think its such a ludacris idea, BUT still laugh and say I got 5years until I even consider taking all that seriously. Although I do have a perfect candidate to be the Mrs.

17. Smile cause I have not conformed to the “perceived” stereotype of many of young men from my cultural background. But been a barrier breaker, through hard work and excellence.

18.  Have the wisdom and confidence to walk into any room in life and be me.

19. KIDULTHOOD, THE BILL (What a year, that was, better days to come 1-13)

20. Be Proud, because I say it, and do it in life.

21. Look at myself in the mirror, see the good, the bad, and the ugly. Seek to improve.

22. Have confidence to know ‘The Plan’ stay on it, seen the proof that we do influence the direction of this thing. :  )

23.  Have compassion for parents faults, and be thankful for their virtues. (I was 6 when my mum was 25, same year I started acting) Love them both.

24. Realise the more I get older, that we’re all children playing the roles of adults, we’re winging this thing.

25. Live in the moments enjoy Health, Wealth and Happiness. Today is all we really have, smile. And don’t let life, make me, take it so seriously.

I’m 25 BABY WOAH “I’m gonna make it look cool”… Good Luck

Aml Ameen Goes to Hollywood, 3rd and Final Part…

Wow so this is my last installment on this part of my journey Aml Ameen Goes to Hollywood… A lot of people have asked why. “well you can either fast forward to the end and get the answer, or read through it all, and get to that part”. Either way I thank you for joining me again.

This one is for the true supporter, it’s quite a read, but it’s the Finally,  I shout out a few people, give insight into the other side of hunger pains, the good moments.

Part 1- Is the hunger pains.

Part 2- Is the rise of the Underdog

Part 3- Good Times and Goodbye

Holla at me @amlameen when you’ve finished reading. RT spread blog. Cause i may take them all down, in a little bit, was just a bit of fun for me… and a way to share…Bless

In the last installment i explained what the next chapter would hold, but soooo much has gone on since the last blog, (Shooting the pilot, coming home to LDN, Meeting Greats, NBC Trailers, Shooting Films, Directing Films. Partying in LA.), in  no particular order. lol. So much so that i’m gonna have to do time jumps just to fit it in. I’m gonna put into to sections… Here We Go.

I’m taking you back to February when I first heard I got the Pilot…

The Greats

They Celebrate you in LA when your winning, the day after I got the pilot, I got calls from my lawyer, Manager, and Executives all wanting to take me to dinner, or for a drink. I remember going to meet my (Tony Soprano looking) Lawyer, he gave me a big speech very American “you know this is Hollywood History, I have never heard of a British Actor, being flown in by one Network,  with no american profile, and in two weeks be given a straight offer by another network”. “Your fucking great kid”, my manager smiling and agreeing. And me sitting there reserved, smiling and kinda of shy of all the compliments. They’re thinking why aint I jumping up and down lol (I do a little later)…Another meeting was with heads of the Network, who i’d never met, and they made jokes about that fact “sorry we didn’t get to meet you, but David said he wanted you, so that was that”.

With all these great meetings and celebrations nothing compared to the night I was invited to meet the Greats. When I’m in LA when I’m not staying in hotels, i’m staying in the guest house of one of my mangers very big clients, won’t mention her name but a very good woman and now a friend of mine. I actually call her “MA” (as in mum). She lives in a house that is world famous and her home has been featured on a popular TV show ;  ).. (I can hear people’s minds working lol) This Legend invited me to and i quote  a party with a few of her “old friends”, she said i”ts a bunch of old people, but if you would like to come, your welcome to.  I put on my finest black suit and rolled.

So i should of got a clue from the black limo rolling up outside her house that, this wasn’t just a meeting of a bunch of “old people” as she said, but still I was non the wiser. Got to the venue there’s papparazzi, “okay, i’m kinda used to that at premieres, etc”. Walk into the venue she’s doing the row of interviews, only thing new here is that NO ONE  is interested in talking to me, and i’m standing in the background smiling (mostly because it’s humbling wen know one gives a ish who you are, when your used to being known in your country, and now i know what’s its like to feel like a spare part in these Events). Anyway… I move into the room closer and who do I see…

Billy Crystal… And i’m like wow, thats Billy Crystal, older, shorter than I imagined (I can relate, people always saying “Rah your shorter than I thought”. People lets put it out there I’m 5’7 at best, DONE…) In fact alot of these Movie Star are my height or just a bit taller. I move closer into the room and I see The Legend…

Morgan Freeman… Running up to “MA” and hugging and kissing her (They’ve worked together). Two moments Later I’m introduced to the man above, as the young actor from England, who’s been here for two weeks and landed a lead role in David E Kelley Drama (at the time) Kindreds. Mr Freeman looked at me, consider me for a moment, had a quizzical look on his face, that then crept into a smile and in his classic Royal voice said “you must be pretty good son, you should give my son some advice”. I laughed, and he said “okay you guys are sitting with me” At this point guys on the level, i’m like screaming inside, i’m wishing I had my twitter, on me right now to show off. But this wasn’t even (for me) the best person yet, as i walk toward the Dinning Hall with “MA” and Morgan, I see a short grey headed man right in front, with Gravity for presence, many people surrounding him, who was it? The man considered by many the greatest actor to grace the Earth MR…

ROBERT DE NIRO

That was it for me, I was officially star struck, and this is the first time in my life that has happenned. The Weight of Superior years of excellence in the room, was astounding. What was more crazy to me was to observe these Greats, talking around the table, sharing stories, insulting other actors for fun, reminscing about a time gone… Seeing the status games played, hearing who’s loved, who’s missed. A whole essay could be written on this momentous moment in my career, and what i learned about the history of this industry but this is AmeenDream not Aml’s observation. However I will Robert De Niro, is as cool as we seen him in the movies, except he’s funny (and Leo like me), Morgan Freeman advised  me on always trusting your instincts and being good to people. And my boy Jeremy Piven (who at the time was my new favorite actor) thought I was a bit nuts for being able to recite 75% of his entourage lines, but was really impressed with my story and further more that I was sat with Morgan Freeman, an Idol of his.

Me and J.P

The night was truly GREAT and In addition to the previous mentioned I also MET Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges and Lee Daniels (Precious)…

Back to The City of London

When your on a winning streak you have a new sense of confidence when you walk into another audition.  Why I think that is, is that you don’t have that desperate energy that sub-consciously no one wants to be around. The Key i think is to stay in the moment, and not think your whole life depends on this one job- easy for me to say now, maybe, but i do think its that zoning in, and remaining calm that makes the difference. So after this this calm film audition that I completely did my thing on. Came the crazy driving to the airport LATE. I’m parking up, paying for the rental, and then running through LAX trying to catch different planes, cause  I missed mine my first one, picture me running from terminal 9-3, with my big bag, Lap top, stopping the police asking them for a lift to gate 3, them laughing in my face “Come on Buddy,  you better keep running”, running so hard that tears are in my eyes lol. This palaver was worthy of a film scene. I finally got on the plane, Economy (hahaha), and came back to the city. So happy to be home.

HOME

It’s Funny when I was in LA, I was looking forward to coming home, soon as I came back, I wanted back in the game. Hadn’t yet shot the show, and hadn’t yet told anyone i.e the fans about it. Sat for about a week, me, my girl, my family googling waiting for a confirmation, because it low key (Virginia Slang), felt like I made it all up. Like it wasn’t true, like it was a dream. Woke up one morning, and my girl found it, on the internet in an official place, before I got on Twitter, and facebook etc I made good on a promise I made to Fellow actor who rolled with me out in LA Jimmy Ackingbola, that he’d know first, as we became real cool in LA. Belled him, he hollered on the phone “AmeenDream”… Got on my computer and it was like the quiet before the storm as I released the article-http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2010/02/pilot-season-first-look-at-nbcs-2010-drama-pilots.html

As people read it, the Twitter and Facebook Blew up lol. So many people proud genuinely I believe, celebrating with me, actors from the scene that I know, paying homage. It’s a good feeling. The real is not everyone is gonna be happy for you, but I inclined to believe that 90% of people were, and more than happy for me personally, actors in the game, understand white, black, asian, etc that movement from UK-LA from Kidulthood to Hollywood (as Deacs and Fem like to say), is an important one, a major challenge for any actor, and one some many have not got to see. They understand that anyone that gets in, makes it easier for us all to get in. Idris made is easier for all of our generation now, but before him Chiwtel and before him Adrian Lester (Primary Colors, know your history), some may even say Delroy Lindo even though he’s viewed as an American. My point is success has a ricochet affect ME/WE…

Coming home having placed my feet firmly in the soil of American opportunity, made me more hungry than ever, and instead of relaxing, I injected energy into all my other personal ventures. My Agency ABMG (AmeenBillhamManagementgroup)- signing three new actors… Began Pre-production for AmeenDream ENT Short film The Pick UP. And visited my drama school (taught by RADA boy Robert Whitelock).

The SEND OFF for Kindreds

Now… I don’t care what people say, I will always have respect and have love for this man, from my inception as a recognized actor, he has always supported me, and brought me onto his show, no questions. I have a great time, hear his stories, catch joke and promote my projects. Richard Blackwood T.B.R… And on that sunday when I went on the show, almost just to hang out, was no different, other than i brought champagne into toast. RB spoke of meeting me for the first time outside Hackney Empire where I stopped my Silver HRV Jeep back in 05, when he was doing the brothers play, and said Mr Blackwood, I respect you, and in 5 months time you will know who I am (might even to do that to my favorite actor when we meet). He spoke of my passion over the years, and my versatility going from Kidulthood/ The Bill/ Silent Witness to Theatre, he was proud. His one word of advice for me, was ”don’t come back until your gone” lol… Sounds harsh, but I get what he means… We all toasted in the studio and that was blessing to keep get it moving and back to LA.

 1st Class to Hollywood

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSlux1khr4c

Got my own version to this with UK actor names… hahahaha…

Now I’m weary of writing this part, people are like don’t brag, I’m not, but I think it’s Important to show progression.  What I wanna say, that in all my life, all my success I have never traveled 1st class EVER… And people it is great, don’t be afraid of success or scornful of people that get it (I’ve learned that most have earned their position, most not all) . And I what always has inspired me, when I see massive success whether it be on TV or real life, is to know ONE FACT. They were born the same way as me, and if they can have it in life, SO CAN I. … And first class is exactly that, I think everyone should experience it at least once. I’ve had mine. Get yours!!!

Back IN CALI

Coming back to LA, no longer the underdog, but as a man who has a job, changed the energy made me a bit euphoric for a minute. But one thing with success is, if you don’t stay on it, you become complacent. So quickly and I mean like the third day in, I set myself a NEW FAR goal, for being here, a goal that would set my motivation in focus mode, and that goal is still with me as a I write this now… I come back this time and i’m staying in a hotel, and meeting all kinds of people on my travels. One of the most interesting things about this city, is if your new to the towns, you are closed off to it, once your connected, its like the world parts. On my travels I ended up in a club with Leona Lewis, in the shopping centre making friend with DEBO (Zeus from Friday films), invited to REV RUN daughters pool party… Partying in the W!!! But with special treatment.  It’s crazy, all this and I haven’t started working….

KINDREDS

They are extremely energized and enthusiastic on an American TV set, everybody is smiling, and does their job with massive pride and joy, but i get a sense that people are nervous also. From when I walked on set first day of shooting, having met the cast, briefly my first day was an 8 page Kathy Bates Monolouge in the court room, where the Academy Award Winning Legend delivered a great performance, and i mean great. I decided when I walked on set, from day one, that I would speak American fully, while on set, when they said cut I would remain American, in fact the crew and supporting artist and the cast all thought I was American until about a week into shooting. I remember John Beasley coming to me and saying…

“Hey Aml where did you trainee”? and I said in an American accent in London, he then proceeded to say he could tell i trained because alot of young american actors don’t listen in scenes, and I did. And he said how did you end up in London from New York.

Then I did my slightly exaggerated London accent (which has gone more cockney as of late than anything street lol). “I’m from the UK”… I never seen someone laugh so hard, it became my little on running joke with people to switch accents, the Americans Love that… If you can do them and then you, its very fasinating to them. The British accent is like Superman powers, they love it.. So when you come here peeps, speak the Queens english. So useful lol…

I can Safely report that on this job, i’ve done some of  my best work, everything was just right, the right cast, all my scenes were with Kathy, who has complimented me many a time on my ability and focus. And actors know this on most jobs their is a moment where you were not happy with a scene or a moment, I DONT HAVE THIS MOMENT  on this job. Settled with everything I did.

It was exciting, got to fly about the room, like Peter Pan, hahaha, my character has a strong journey throughout the episode- Had a classic time and even found a good American barber (a worry of mine lol, mandem can relate, a new person cutting your hair after 17yrs of the same barber, it’s a big step…)…

I love that photo… On the last day, we all did interviews for the show, I hope people get to see them, mines funny switching between accents.

So we finished the job and as quick as we all became like a small little family, it was  over… As it is on most jobs. THE Big question then was “Will it go to series”

……………(SMILE)

YOU know how this part of the journey ends right? Well if you don’t Click below…

THE FUTURE… (1-13)

The Series goes on to be a success,

This becomes the foundation for many more opportunities,

I remain focused on the BIG prize : ) …..

Never dropping the ball, in times of Blessings and Lessons…

See how much of this AmeenDream I can make a reality…

Fly, Fly, and don’t look back unless it’s to pull someone else up”…

Thanks for reading people… I appreciate you, trust, for real…
